SIN: Still Causes Death

Truth be told, most of us are terrified of dying, whether by disease, violence, catastrophe, accident, or old age. Yet we intentionally and repeatedly engage in various behaviors that expedite our death and demise: We drink, smoke, overeat, eat poorly, don’t exercise, exceed the speed limit, drive recklessly, argue and fight, resist authority, and we cheat on one another. The greatest thing we do to advance our death is disobeying the commandments of the almighty God. It's like we all have varying degrees of suicidal tendencies.

For the wages of sin is death… — Rom. 6:23 

…each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. — James 1:14-15 

Sin is the state of being spiritually corrupt, dead, and separated from God. Because of Adam’s initial sin in the garden of Eden, we were each born in this sin state.

Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. — Psa. 51:5  

Sin is also the criminal act against the laws of God.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. — 1John 1:10

For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. — James 2:10
